Our innovative bridging courses offer the perfect launchpad for learners are passionate about music and media, or who dream of turning your creative spark into a fulfilling career, but are unsure of commitments or about whether they want to go all the way. Our bridging course credits can be counted towards the Vocational Training Programme in Music and Media Programme (VTPMM) while equipping you with essential skills required in the industry. For those who decide to move ahead with the more advanced VTPMM Programme thereafter, our instructors will work hand in hand with you to make it happen!

The Strings Instruments Building, Maintenance, and Music Making course offers a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience for enthusiasts and aspiring craftsmen alike. Participants delve into the intricate art of constructing, repairing, and maintaining of string instruments, including guitars and ukuleles. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and practical workshops, students gain invaluable insights into the anatomy and mechanics of string instruments, learning essential techniques such as fretwork, neck adjustment, and bridge placement. Additionally, the course explores the nuances of string instrument acoustics and sound production, equipping students with the skills to fine-tune instruments for optimal performance. Course Objectives

This customised course crafted for Persons with Disabilities aims to:

  • Bring awareness to the different parts of the ukulele and their functionalities by assembling a ukulele
  • Bring awareness to the different parts of the guitar and their functionalities through understanding its anatomy
  • Acquiring basic Ukulele chords and applying to play tunes in a sing-along session in a group setting

Requirements

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Open to Singaporean citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents.
  • Individuals with mild intellectual disabilities or autism spectrum disorder, are encouraged to apply.
  • An interest in music and media is essential.
  • Although not mandatory, students with prior experience in any musical instruments are welcome.
  • All applications are subject to assessment to determine suitability of placement.

Course Fees

Full Course Fees: $584.68
Nett Fees after subsidy: $29.23

We are able to provide course fees at a highly subsidised rate, through the generous support of Enabling Village!

Trainers

Our trainers for the bridging courses are highly qualified professionals with extensive expertise in their respective fields. They have undergone specialised training to be able to teach PWDs, and are dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment that empowers persons with disabilities to discover and develop their unique talents and interests.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. What is the eligibility to join this programme?

We welcome participants who have ASD or multiple mild intellectual disabilities including ASD.

At this moment, we are not able to include individuals with severe physical disability. However, all cases will be seen on a case to case basis, so if you are unsure, simply contact us.

We will expose participants to the various instruments listed in each course (depending on the course).

If participant is non-verbal, we would need him/her to be able to understand instructions.

Our trainers are equipped to handle a range of neuro-divergent individuals from moderate/severe to high-functioning. If the participant might be triggered by certain situations or things, please highlight these to us so that we can work together to create a conducive environment for them.

Following to his/her session is not compulsory, and we also encourage participants to learn independence.
